KGV Oval, Glenorchy |

The KGV Facility is a sporting complex developed in the 1950's and improved over the years by the Glenorchy City Council
to provide a first class playing venue for Australian Rules Football. The playing surface at KGV is around the same size as
the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). It has seating for around 4500 people under cover and a total capacity of around
20,000. It has also been used for large scale rock concerts. Although some concerts have attracted crowds of up to 25,000,
the official football record crowd was acheived in 1966 in the TFL, when 6,520 saw Glenorchy do battle with Clarence. It
is still yet to host a big match of any sort.
On the main wing of the ground is two Glenorchy Football and Cricket Club buildings and one grandstand. Behind the Hobart city goals is a large grass hill that seats many thousand people and stretches along to the outer (Glenorchy city) wing. About halfway along the wing, the front of the hill becomes extremely steep, meaning that it is impossible to sit or stand there. Next to the hill is a concrete terrace with a few thousand more seats that goes around to when it meets the main stand behind the other goals. The ground is certainly a great facility in a great location, but needs to be upgraded in the near future to become Hobart's home of football. |
